The Invisible Weight You Carry
August • Week One • Awareness
We fucking made it.
It's Friday🤍
Maybe you're finally sitting down after a week that somehow felt both incredibly busy... and impossible to explain.
Nothing huge happened.
There wasn't one major crisis.
But your brain feels full.
You're remembering to buy more toothpaste.
You're wondering if there's enough milk for the weekend.
You're thinking about that email you forgot to send.
Trying to remember if you booked the dentist.
Planning next week's dinners.
Wondering if your child has outgrown their shoes.
Thinking about work on Monday.
Trying not to forget your mom's birthday.
All while someone asks, "How was your week?"
And somehow the only answer you can come up with is, "Fine."
Because how do you explain feeling exhausted from carrying things nobody else can see?
Behind the Behaviour
When we talk about the mental load, we're not just talking about having a lot to do.
We're talking about carrying the invisible responsibility of remembering.
Remembering appointments.
Remembering birthdays.
Planning meals.
Thinking three steps ahead.
Anticipating everyone else's needs before they've even asked.
Your nervous system doesn't just respond to what you're physically doing.
It also responds to everything your brain is trying to keep track of.
Over time, those unfinished thoughts become like dozens of browser tabs left open all at once.
Even when your body finally stops...
Your brain doesn't know how to.
If you've ever wondered why resting doesn't always feel restful...
This is one of the reasons.
Last Call
Just because no one can see what you're carrying doesn't mean it isn't heavy.
Invisible work is still work. Mental load is still a load.
And constantly being the one who remembers everything deserves compassion, not criticism.
This Month's Bar Tab
This month's Bar Tab is your Mental Load Companion Guide.
Inside, you'll begin with one simple exercise: "What's In Your Backpack?"
Spend a few quiet minutes getting everything out of your head and onto paper.
Not to organize it. Not to solve it.
Just to let your brain put it down for a moment.
Sometimes awareness is the first step toward feeling lighter.

One for the Road
Before Monday arrives...
Take five minutes to ask yourself one question:
"What am I carrying that nobody else can see?"
Write down every task, every reminder, every responsibility, every worry, and every unfinished thought that's been taking up space in your mind this week.
You don't have to fix any of it today.
Just notice it.
Sometimes your nervous system doesn't need you to have all the answers.
It just needs permission to stop holding everything by itself.
Until Next Friday...
I hope this weekend isn't about catching up.
I hope it's about catching your breath.
Next Friday, we'll talk about why your brain never really feels like it clocks out—and what you can start doing about it.
Until then... Be gentle with yourself.
