What Feeling Lighter Actually Looks Like.
I think sometimes we imagine healing as this huge transformation.
One day we'll wake up.
The house will be organized.
Our nervous system will be regulated.
We'll meal prep every Sunday.
We'll drink enough water.
We'll have boundaries.
We'll stop overthinking.
And somehow the laundry will finally remain done.
I regret to inform you that the laundry will never remain done. 😂
But feeling lighter? It usually doesn't look nearly as dramatic as we think it will.
Sometimes lighter looks really boring.
It's leaving the dishes until tomorrow.
It's not volunteering for the thing you absolutely could do but absolutely do not want to do.
It's saying: "Can you handle this?"
and then actually letting them handle it.
It's ordering pizza.
It's answering the email tomorrow.
It's realizing your child's school theme day does not require a Pinterest-level costume.
It's letting someone be mildly disappointed.
It's choosing good enough.
It's noticing something needs to be done...
and not automatically assuming you need to do it.
Tiny things.
But mental load is built out of tiny things too.
Feeling lighter doesn't mean having zero responsibility.
This is important.
We're not trying to create some magical life where nobody needs anything from us.
You have responsibilities.
I have responsibilities.
Kids need things.
Work exists.
Bills need to be paid.
The dog will stare directly into your soul until somebody feeds him.
Life keeps happening.
The goal isn't: "How do I eliminate every stressful thing from my life?"
It's: "How do I build a life that doesn't require me to constantly abandon myself to maintain it?"
That's different.
You might not even notice the change right away.
Maybe you don't suddenly feel amazing.
Maybe instead...
You snap a little less.
You sit down without immediately scanning the room for what needs to be done.
You ask for help before you're furious nobody offered.
You notice you're overwhelmed earlier.
You say no without writing a five-paragraph explanation.
You let something be "good enough."
You enjoy an afternoon without mentally living in tomorrow.
You catch yourself thinking:
"I should..."
and occasionally respond:
"Nah."
THAT counts.
Actually, that counts a lot.
The goal was never to become better at carrying an unsustainable amount.
That's probably the biggest thing I want you to take from this month.
We can create planners.
Make lists.
Develop routines.
Organize the fridge.
Colour-code the family calendar.
And some of those things genuinely help.
But if every tool we use is designed to make us more efficient at carrying too much, we're missing something.
Sometimes the answer isn't: How do I manage this better?
Sometimes it's:
What can change?
What can be shared?
What can wait?
What can be easier?
What can be good enough?
What can I stop doing entirely?
And maybe most importantly:
Where do I fit into the life I'm working so hard to maintain?

What Feeling Lighter Actually Looks Like (click to download)
For our final Mental Load Bar Tab, we're looking at what you want to take forward from this month — and what you're ready to leave behind.
One for the Road
Before September begins, finish this sentence:
"Life would feel a little lighter if I stopped expecting myself to __________."
Don't overthink it.
Pay attention to whatever came to mind first.
That might be exactly where you need to start.
Last Call
Feeling lighter doesn't mean everything becomes easy.
It doesn't mean the house stays clean, nobody needs you and you suddenly become a woman who meditates peacefully every morning at sunrise.
It means you aren't disappearing underneath the weight of your own life anymore.
You're noticing.
You're questioning.
You're choosing.
You're putting some things down.
And you're making a little more room for yourself inside the life you've built.
That's what we're after here.
Not perfection.
Not a perfectly regulated nervous system.
Not becoming better at doing it all.
Less survival. More living.
And I'll see you in September. 🍸
